The Oysterponds Historical Society's Mission is to preserves the history of the Orient and East Marion communities and celebrate its culture through education and exhibitions with different 19th century schoolhouses, three former dwellings and a red barn. 70,000 artifacts reside within the museums that feature four centuries of textiles, paintings, photographs, tools and domestic furnishings, all reflecting more than two centuries of North Fork life and culture as does the generous collection of historic documents and photographs.

The Society provides a cultural record for the four communities making up Orient and East Marion. Over the years Oysterponds has accepted donations of buildings, furniture, historical documents, personal items, farm implements and more, which belonged to the early residents of Oysterponds. Uniquely themed exhibits are shown throughout the year.  A research library is available for those researching the early history of Oysterponds. Children's programs, special lectures and tours of the facilities are offered as well.
